In the spring of 2005, some families approached Hills URC about
planting a URC in Sioux Falls. They had a vision for a distinctly
Reformed church with a passion for reaching the city of Sioux Falls
for Christ. By God’s grace, the right doors were opened at the
right time, and the Sioux Falls URC Fellowship was formed. We’ve
been gathering for worship since September 2005 and called our
first minister in December 2006—Rev. Spencer Aalsburg.
OUR MISSION
Calling sinners to be reconciled
to God the Father
through His saving grace in His Son, Jesus Christ,
and equipping them for lives of grateful service
by the power of the Holy Spirit
through the preaching of the Word.
WHO WE ARE
Sioux Falls United Reformed Church Fellowship:
United
One with the
saints of all the ages, serving the One, Triune God - Father,
Son & Holy Spirit - according to the one faith once for all
delivered to the saints (Jude 3), which alone allows us to find
peace with God and comfort through Christ! (Rom. 5:1ff; Eph.
4:1-6).
Reformed
We are distinctly
Reformed, referring to the historic Protestant Reformation of
the 16th century that restored the Church to her Biblical confession.
The pillars of the Reformation: Salvation by Grace Alone through
Faith Alone because of Christ Alone according to Scripture Alone,
to the end that God Alone receives the Glory! (Eph. 2:8-10; Rom.
3:23; 11:33-36).
Church
Joined together
as a covenant community of God's people, we share the calling
to confess Christ in every area of life – at home, at work and
at play – striving shoulder to shoulder to understand and live
according to God's Word, for His glory and for our enjoyment
of Him! (Is. 59:21; John 10:14-16).
Fellowship
We currently
assume this title because we are a church-plant, or mission work,
in the Sioux Falls area of the Hills
URC in Hills, MN (Matt. 16: 18; John 4:35; Acts 1:8).
OUR VALUES
God-centered Worship, in which we ask: “How does
God call us to worship Him?” … instead of: “What do we like?” Thus,
we come before our Holy God with a joyful reverence and awe, aiming
to glorify the Lord and enjoy Him. Worship of God is not for our
entertainment, nor is it crafted to evoke an emotional response
or conform to the latest fads.
We believe that in worship, God enters into a dialogue with us,
wherein we humbly bring to Him our adoration, confession, thanksgiving
and supplications through prayer, songs, and offerings; and He
speaks to us by His Word to encourage, strengthen, instruct and
chastise us for our good (Psalm 2:11; 1 Cor. 14:40; Heb. 12:18-29).
Sharing our Faith, where we are committed to
a strong evangelical voice in the community, exercised in prison
ministry, nursing homes, rescue missions, right to life institutions,
and addressing personal needs in the community (Matt. 5:16; 28:18-20;
1 Peter 3:15).
Expository Preaching that covers the whole counsel
of God while also being Christ-centered. Not only is this practice
God-honoring and biblically mandated, but it also nourishes and
equips the saints (Jonah 3:2; Acts 20:27; 2 Tim. 4:2; 1 Pet. 1:22-2:2).
Celebrating the Sabbath (or Lord's Day) by gathering
twice on Sunday to worship our God, with one sermon ordinarily
focusing on the Heidelberg Catechism as a summary of Christian
doctrines (Ex. 20:8-10; Is. 58:13; Heb. 10:25).
Christ-centered Education, not only in post-worship
classes, but also in Christian day schools or home schooling (Deut
4:10; 6:4-9, 20-25; Prov. 22:6; Ezek. 16:20-21). (This is not a
requirement for affiliating with us.)
Accountability, through elders charged by God
to oversee and protect the flock entrusted to them (Acts 20:28;
Heb. 13:17).
Genuine Fellowship, where the communion of the
saints is exercised in the Spirit of Christ (1 Cor. 12:12-13; 20-27;
1 John 1:3).
