The following with questions and answers will help acquaint you with Sioux Falls URC. If your questions are not covered here, or for more information, contact us.

WHAT IS A “CHURCH PLANT”?
SFURC is the church plant work of Hills URC, a local church about 19 miles away. This means we are a relatively new and growing church that is still part of our “mother” congregation.  We’re looking to plant an historic Christian church that is  Reformed in theology and worship. We need committed Reformed Christians to  help build the core group now--the harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few! Please prayerfully consider whether God is calling you to be a part of this church planting effort.

WHY DO YOU HAVE AN EVENING SERVICE IN HILLS?
We gather for worship not only at 11:15 a.m., but also at 6:00p.m. at Hills URC--just a 25-minute contempletive drive from our Sioux Falls location. This one-on-one contact with our mother church greatly facilitates the communion of saints and proper oversight for a young church plant.

WHAT IS "FAMILY CATECHISM"?
“Family Catechism” is a Sunday school class for all people (families & individuals) of all ages from 6 yrs. and up.  This discussion-oriented class will begin working through the Christian Faith by looking at the historic Heidelberg Catechism.  In this way we can learn and grow as a church family together.  For ages 5 and under, there will be a Bible-based class called “Show Me Jesus.”

WHAT BIBLE VERSION DO YOU USE?
We use the English Standard Version (ESV) in our worship services, copies of which are available when you visit. Regardless of the Bible version you use, you’ll be able to follow along just fine. For more information about the ESV, visit here.

WHAT IS YOUR WORSHIP LIKE?
Visit here. Services have an easy-to-follow structure. For our music we primarily use the Psalter Hymnal and the Revised Trinity Hymnal, yet we have a CCLI license and can draw from a variety of sources.

HOW LONG DOES THE SERVICE LAST?
Our service lasts a little over an hour, so we usually dismiss around 12:15 – 12:30 p.m. Afterward we fellowship outside the sanctuary over coffee and snacks, and then often travel to someone's home for lunch or eat right there in the chruch builidng. This is a great opportunity to get to know one another.  When you visit, we invite you to stick around, grab a cup of coffee, and get to know us over lunch.

WHAT HAPPENS BEFORE THE SERVICE?
When you arrive early for the worship service, you'll find people congregating outside the sanctuary, while others file in to select a seat. Greeters will welcome you and get you a worship bulletin.

IS THERE A NURSURY AVAILABLE?
Yes, indeed! It’s available for children 6 months old and up.  If you have younger children, you are welcome to stay in the nursery with them.  We also have a seperate room for nursing mothers and a family friendly bathroom.

WHAT IF I CAN'T MAKE THE MORNING SERVICE?
We encourage you to contact us and let us know of your interest. You can still become involved in one of our studies and attend our visionary meetings. Please prayerfully consider whether God is calling you to be a part of this church planting effort.

WHAT ELSE IS GOING ON?
In addition to evening worship, we meet throughout the week for various studies and fellowship. We also periodically hold a lecture series for the community, with topics like child rearing or marriage. We have held events like a John Calvin conference, a worship conference, and a parenting seminar. We encourage you to sign up for updates for our e-mail newsletter.
